About Critiaid
A producer-led approach to audiobooks.
Critiaid was started in 2021 by three audio producers who'd worked at podcast networks, theater companies, and a major audiobook publisher — and were tired of audiobooks treated as text-to-speech with a human voice. We make and curate audiobooks the way our theater friends would: cast for the performance, direct for the pacing, score for the mood. Then make them findable.
Producer-led curation
Every audiobook on the platform has been listened to end-to-end by one of our producers. We're listening for performance — not just clarity. If a narrator's pacing doesn't earn the runtime, the audiobook doesn't make the library.
Original productions
Four times a year we produce a full-cast audio drama in-house: cast, scored, sound-designed, and shipped to all annual pass holders at no extra cost. We treat these productions the way HBO treats a limited series.
Listener-respectful
No ad-supported tier. No autoplay tricks. No 'skip the boring chapter' AI summaries. We're a paid product because we'd rather make money from listeners than from advertisers — it changes what we ship.
